Spreading Gratitude Through Letters: Month 4 of Our 12 Months of Kindness

Giving back has always been an important part of who we are. Through our 12 Months of Kindness campaign, we have committed to showing up for our community in thoughtful and consistent ways. Each month is an opportunity to support a different cause and connect with people in a meaningful way. For April, we turned our focus toward expressing gratitude to the men and women who serve our country.

This month’s initiative centered around something simple, yet incredibly powerful. We gathered children from our clients’ families and our own team and invited them to write letters and create drawings for deployed service members. The result was a collection of heartfelt messages filled with appreciation, encouragement, and kindness.

Why Supporting Our Troops Matters

Service members make daily sacrifices that often go unseen. Time away from loved ones, demanding environments, and the weight of responsibility can take a toll both physically and emotionally. While words may seem small in comparison, they can carry a great deal of meaning for someone who is far from home.

Receiving a handwritten letter is a reminder that people are thinking about them and appreciating their service. It creates a sense of connection and reassurance. These messages can lift spirits, provide comfort, and reinforce the idea that their efforts are valued.

As a team, we wanted to find a way to contribute to that sense of encouragement. We chose an initiative that allowed our community to take part in a direct and personal way. It felt important to involve families and give children the chance to express gratitude in their own words.

Month 4 Initiative: Letters and Artwork for Troops

This month, we invited the children of our clients and our own families to take part in a meaningful activity from home. We provided note cards and coloring pages for them to write messages and create drawings for service members. Once completed, we collected everything to be mailed out.

Some children wrote simple thank you notes, while others shared kind wishes and words of encouragement. Each piece was unique and heartfelt, reflecting genuine appreciation in its own way.

There is something especially meaningful about seeing gratitude through a child’s perspective. Their messages are honest and full of heart. Bright colors, hand drawn flags, and thoughtful words came together to create something truly special. It was not about perfection. It was about connection.

This initiative brought families together around a shared purpose and allowed everyone to contribute in a simple but meaningful way. Watching the collection grow was a reminder that small acts of kindness can add up to something impactful. Each letter represented a moment of care and recognition, forming a message of support from our community to those serving across the world.

A Million Thanks®

To ensure these messages reached service members, the letters are sent through A Million Thanks®, a nonprofit organization dedicated to sending letters of gratitude to members of the United States military. Since its founding in 2004, the organization has delivered millions of handwritten messages to active duty service members and veterans.

Their mission is centered on strengthening morale and fostering a sense of connection. By distributing letters across the globe, they help remind service members that their efforts are seen and appreciated. This alignment made them the perfect partner for our Month 4 initiative.

Working with an organization that has such a strong track record allowed us to feel confident that our community’s messages would make a real impact. It also gave us the opportunity to contribute to something larger than ourselves, joining a nationwide effort focused on gratitude and support.

The Power of Small Acts of Kindness

Kindness does not need to be complicated to be meaningful. A simple letter, a few thoughtful words, or a drawing can carry a message that resonates deeply with someone who needs it. These small gestures have the ability to create connection and remind people that they are not alone.

This initiative reinforced the idea that everyone can play a role in giving back. It does not require special skills or large resources. It only requires intention and a willingness to care.

By involving our community, we were able to amplify that impact. Each participant contributed in their own way, creating a collective effort that felt both personal and powerful.
